In the rapidly evolving electronics industry, the demand for advanced PCB protection is constantly increasing. To meet these needs, PVB 60 and PVB 16 varnishes stand out in the market due to their exceptional properties. Let’s take a detailed comparison of these two products.
Composition and general properties
PVB 60 and PVB 16 varnishes have a similar composition but differ in the ratio of ingredients. Both products are highly effective in protecting PCBs. They offer a transparent PVB layer, providing excellent insulation and protection against corrosion and other adverse external factors.
Differences and product innovations
A distinctive feature of PVB 60 is its higher viscosity (~50 cP) compared to PVB 16 (~21 cP). This difference affects the application method: PVB 60, available in liquid form, comes in a 50 ml bottle with a brush (ART.AGT-199) and a 1-liter canister (ART.AGT-217) for larger projects, while PVB 16, previously offered as an aerosol (100 ml (ART.AGT-232) and 400 ml (ART.AGT-115)), now also comes in a 5-liter canister of liquid (ART.AGT-321) to meet industrial needs.
Industrial PCB protection – varnish research and development
We focused on optimizing the use of PVB 60 varnish in the industry. Considering the issue of “white threads” appearing during spray application, due to its high viscosity of PVB 60 (~50 cP).
We used spray nozzles 210 (⌀0.01”) and 514 (⌀0.014″) for the study. Tests showed that adding 180 ml of PVB Solvent to 300 ml of PVB 60 varnish (38% concentration) eliminates the problem of “white threads”.
However, the ratio of solvent to varnish should be adjusted for each specific project, finding a balance between viscosity level and usability in a particular situation.
“Which PCB Varnish?” – effective PCB protection and practical aspects
Choosing between PVB 60 and PVB 16 depends on the specifics of the project. PVB 60, with its high viscosity, is more versatile and ideal for various application methods, such as brushing, dipping, or spraying after proper dilution. PVB 16, on the other hand, with its faster drying time and aerosol form, is preferred for quick applications. However, it is now also available in liquid form for large industrial projects.
PVB Solvent
Our PVB Solvent (ART.AGT-239) is designed with PVB varnishes in mind and is their perfect complement. It allows not only for varnish dilution but also for cleaning tools. Additionally, it removes varnish without affecting its color or matte finish.
PCB moisture protection
Both varnishes undoubtedly provide effective PCB protection against moisture and other environmental conditions. They offer insulation and protection over a wide temperature range. This is crucial in many applications, from automotive to energy sectors.
Summary
When choosing a PVB varnish for a PCB project, consider the specifics of the project. PVB 60 offers versatility and flexibility in application. PVB 16, now also in liquid form, is ideal for quick and efficient spraying. AG TermoPasty products guarantee the highest quality and PCB protection.
